PURCHASING PHOTOS ..... You can purchase a single photo by clicking on the BUY button at the top right of the page (once you have the photo selected) and then click on the "This photo" line. Prints are made at a professional photo lab and shipped DIRECTLY to you. They charge me less for prints than I can print them myself, which keeps my prices as low as possible. I receive an e-mail telling me about your order but I do not see the prints before they are sent to you. If you are ever unhappy about the prints you receive please let me know and give me the opportunity to make a print that you like, or to refund your money. Your satisfaction is important to me.

AND I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHOSE THE LUSTRE FINISH FOR YOUR PRINTS.....Lustre is a premium finish on a heavier paper. It offers the vibrant colors of glossy with the fingerprint-resistant finish of matte. Printed on Kodak Supra Endura paper.

Very Important......I tend to "fill the frame" when shooting photos. The "frame" or sensor is a ratio of 4x6. This means that if you want an 8x10 print for a scene where I have filled a 4x6 space you will have to crop off some of the scene at one or both ends. To avoid this cropping you might consider ordering an 8x12 instead of an 8x10, then you get the entire image as photographied....

If you want something special (retouching to remove distractions in the background or foreground, etc.) please give me a call and let me know what you have in mind.

PURCHASING DIGITAL FILES High-resolution digital files of photos for advertising or website use or are going to be used for a commercial use (calendars, commercial ads, etc.) please call me so we can discuss an appropriate price. When photos taken by me are used in any publications (print or electronic) they must carry an appropriate photo credit. Digital files cannot be purchased through this website — you need to call or e-mail me and tell me what you need.

High Dynamic Range Images : What is HDR?.... HDR is short for High Dynamic Range. It is a post-processing method of taking a series of images, combining them, and adjusting the contrast ratios to do things that are virtually impossible with a single image aperture and shutter speed. (Pictures are down below this article) Written by: Julie Phillips Jordan Standing proudly in a Greene County field some 18 miles south of Athens on Georgia Hwy 15. The 2-ton iron sculpture has been making headlines since the day it reared its head in front of Reed Hall on the University of Georgia campus more than 40 years ago. The famed piece has been fought over, ridden and ridiculed, has had mentions in Time magazine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Atlanta magazine, not to mention the slew of Athens writers who've tackled the subject. A film was even made about the notorious horse in 1982 by William VanDerKloot. An entirely post-World War II development, metal sculpture was making one of its first appearances in the country on the UGA campus. On the very evening that the sculpture of the Iron Horse was placed in front of Reed Hall, a number of disgruntled students set to work with their own creative ideas for the piece. The horse was scribbled on with paint, hay was shoved into its mouth while manure was scattered on the ground behind it, and finally a mattress was placed under it and set on fire. The artist said to The Atlanta Journal on May 28, 1954, ''I was struck with the idea of ancient Athens where people lived with sculpture all around them, and even if they didn't like it, they left it alone. I wanted Athens, Ga., to have a piece of sculpture to look at. And I think the least I could have expected, even if they didn't like it, was a little Southern courtesy.'' Time magazine picked up the story of the horse on June 7, 1954, and quotes Pattison as well: ''It's degrading to have that happen to anyone's idea. ...The university took quite a courageous step in ... having me come down here and work in the first place. ... Now I think their action in taking the horse down and hiding it is cowardly. ... I feel terrible.'' Never again to grace the campus, the Iron Horse was, as Pattison said, taken into hiding. Then in 1958, J.A. Williams, dean of students and director of development, wrote a letter to Dodd, telling him that L.C. Curtis of the university's horticulture department wanted to take the horse and put it on his land where people could drive by and see it. Throughout the years there has been talk about bringing the horse back. Jack Curtis, son of L.C., told the Athens Observer he disagreed with moving the horse back to campus. ''The administration of the university abdicated their response and abandoned the horse,'' Curtis wrote the newspaper. Jack Curtis says part of the reason he feels the horse is in its proper place is aesthetic. ''The expanse of the curve it's on provides people driving by a nice long look at it,'' he says. ''I've been up there quite a bit and watched people in cars -- seen their faces, you know. And few people drive by without taking a good look at it,'' he adds with a hint of pride. ''It's made an awful lot of people who wouldn't ordinarily be exposed to sculpture exposed to it. ''People also used to go out there and tip it over all the time,'' Curtis says. ''That was before we put it in concrete in the mid or late '60s. Seemed like every Monday we'd have to go over and push it back up.'' It seems there's no truth to the rumor that the horse has its backside facing Athens because of its sour experience on campus. ''The truck got stuck, so that's how it stayed,'' Curtis says with a laugh. It's obvious that over the years, Curtis has become quite attached to the horse. And, he says, ''We always judge the corn crops on whether or not we can see the horse.'' He adds, ''It needs to be out where it is, where people can see it.'' And so the horse stands, subject of a wealth of stories brought on by the initial negative reaction to its presence on campus. A legend in its own time, the Iron Horse shares its history in Athens with its home in Greene County.

Dragonflies and Damsel Flies : Dragonflies.......... (IMAGES ARE BELOW THIS INFORMATION) Despite their name, dragonflies are not related to common flies. In fact, they are part of an entirely different order of insects. Dragonflies are part of the Odonata order, which also includes damselflies. Worldwide, the Odonata order of insects (dragonflies and damselflies) includes more than 5,000 individual species. They exist in many countries around the world. Within the United States, there are about 400 species of Odonata. You often see dragonflies near bodies of water (ponds, lakes and slow-moving streams) because they lay their eggs on or near the water. Dragonfly young (nymphs) have a special appendage on their head that they use as a spear to catch small fish. They are predatory insects from birth. Dragonflies are not born with wings. They are born in a larvae state and eventually go through a partial metamorphosis process, during which they grow their wings. Dragonflies spend most of their lives in the larva stage (up to three years, depending on the species). The adult, winged stage only lasts a few weeks. Mating is the primary reason for their winged stage. So when you see a winged dragonfly, you know it's toward the end of its lifespan. Sad but true. Male dragonflies can be very territorial, staking claim to a particular area alongside a pond or stream. When you see two adults chasing each other through the air, it is often one male chasing another from its territory. When you see two dragonflies flying through the air attached to one another, it is almost always a male and female mating. Dragonflies will sometimes travel in swarms, which may be related to weather changes such as the passage of cold fronts. Dragonflies prey on other creatures through their entire life cycle. As larva in bodies of water, they prey on other small creatures (mosquito larva, tiny fish, etc.). As adults, they eat other flying insects. Dragonflies can be useful in controlling mosquito populations. Mosquitoes are one of their primary food sources! Dragonflies are ancient insects. They have existed on Planet Earth for approximately 300 million years. Today, they look very much like they did in "dinosaur times," though they have gradually gotten smaller since then. The largest dragonfly fossil (one of the earliest) had a wingspan of nearly three feet. That makes it the largest flying insect in known history. Dragonflies have two pairs of wings. The wings are mostly transparent and move very fast, so it often appears that they have more than two pairs. The front wings of the dragonfly are slightly longer than the rear wings. This helps with both speed and maneuverability. Though many people fear them, dragonflies cause no harm to humans whatsoever. They are often curious toward humans and will fly around you for that reason, but they do not sting or bite. Though dragonflies are essentially harmless to humans, there were many spooky legends about them in the past (some of which still remain). For example, people used to believe that sleeping outside put you at risk of having your eyes sewn shut by the dragonfly or "darning needle." One of the most distinguishing features of dragonflies are their eyes. They have large, compound eyes with many facets or sides. Because of their large, multifaceted eyes, the adult dragonfly can see nearly 360 degrees around it at all times. Though you can't see them all with the naked eye, the compound eyes of the dragonfly can contain thousands of tiny lenses. As far as insects go, dragonflies are among the fastest. Some of the faster species can fly upward of 30 miles per hour. Their four wings also allow them to move sideways, backward, to hover in place, etc. And they can do all of these movements quickly and accurately, which makes them well suited to eat other insects right out of the air.

Storm Chaser..... : LIGHTNING........Warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!! PICTURES ARE BELOW THIS INTRO....... Yes, I am a Storm Chaser too..... Very addictive! Super what God can do...... and what you will see. These are some of my Best of the Best. Some are cloud lightning that never touch the ground and some are cloud to ground lightning. Lightning is the #2 storm killer in the U.S., killing more than hurricanes or tornadoes. Only floods kill more. Only about 10% of those struck are killed; 90% survive. Lightning is fascinating to watch but also extremely dangerous. In the United States, there are about 25 million lightning flashes every year. Each of those 25 million flashes is a potential killer. While lightning fatalities have decreased over the past 30 years, lightning continues to be one of the top three storm-related killers in the United States. In addition, lightning injures many more people than it kills and leaves some victims with life-long health problems.
